Face Control

1998

Made in collaboration with my sister, Kerry Tribe, Face Control was conceived in response to an invitation to participate in Vision21, an art program organized by Real Gallery at Tunnel, a notorious New York night club.  We created a faux VIP section within Vision21, which itself functioned as a temporary VIP section catering to an art-world clientele within the larger club. Velvet ropes separated the space from the rest of the club while a cast of professional actors played various roles, including a bouncer to guard the entrance, a cocktail waitress and fabulous VIPs. We hired a photographer to take paparazzi-style photos of our guests. The project was not identified as art to other club-goers, and many patrons lined up to get in.
